About the event
The Nelson Algren Committee is celebrating three Algren anniversaries—the 75th anniversary of the "The Man with the Golden Arm," winning the first National Book Award for fiction; the 74th anniversary of "Chicago: City on the Make;" and the 36th of the Algren Committee, which has been keeping his memory alive. The party includes:
Chanteuse Melodie Magnuson, who will be singing songs of the '40s
Musicians Zosia Holden and David Witter, singing songs of protest
A short history of "City on the Make" by Algren historian Mary Wisniewski
Actor Gary Houston, who will perform selections from "City on the Make"
